Language helps when decisions are precise

Being able to discuss the work in Dutch or English can make it easier to ask questions. The important result is a shared understanding of the scope, finish and next decision. Nationality by itself does not establish the quality of a contractor.

Compare the same scope

Ask each contractor to describe preparation, materials, installation and exclusions. A shorter or cheaper quote may cover different work. Compare the detail before comparing the total.

Look at relevant work

Ask for examples related to the room and finish you are considering. A useful example explains what was changed and shows the details. Treat a style reference as inspiration unless it is identified as the contractor’s own work.

Agree who does what

Find out who coordinates the site and which specialist trades may be involved. Agree how decisions and changes are communicated, particularly when you live abroad. One contact person should not leave the responsibilities unclear.

Discuss your project with Jeffrey
