Warm minimalism: five choices for a Mediterranean home
Choose a calm palette, practical lighting and storage around the way you use each room.

Editorial update: 27 September 2026.
Start with how you live
List what the room must do: sitting, dining, working or hosting guests. Keep routes between doors and the terrace clear. Decide what stays before choosing new furniture; a room can feel calmer without replacing everything.
Choose a small material palette
Compare a warm neutral wall colour with one timber tone and one main floor finish. View samples together in the actual room, in daylight and under evening lighting. A photograph cannot show every change in colour or texture.
Plan light and shade together
Separate task lighting from softer evening light. Think about where you read, cook and eat. Consider how curtains or shading affect daytime use before deciding that a brighter lamp is the only solution.
Give storage a defined place
Measure the items you need to store, then decide what should be visible. Built-in storage can help, but check door openings, sockets and access for cleaning before approving a layout.
Use a brief rather than a mood alone
Bring a few reference images, a list of practical problems and the finishes you want to retain. This makes a conversation about layout and materials more useful than asking for a particular style without explaining how the home will be used.
