Terrace Renovation on the Costa del Sol
With 300-plus days of sunshine, your terrace is part of your home. New floors, pergolas, outdoor lighting, privacy screens. We work across Malaga province and make the most of what you have.
Terrace Floors — What Works in the Spanish Climate
Outdoor floors on the Costa del Sol need to handle intense sun, occasional rain, and temperature swings. Here is what we recommend and what we use.
Continuous Indoor-Outdoor Flow
Run the same floor material from inside the living room onto the terrace. It removes a visual break, makes both spaces feel larger. Now possible with outdoor-rated porcelain that matches indoor tiles.
Natural Stone
Travertine and limestone look beautiful, age well, and feel cool underfoot. They require regular sealing but many clients prefer the look over porcelain.
Porcelain with Anti-Slip Finish
The workhorse of outdoor flooring on the Costa del Sol. Hard-wearing, fade-resistant, available in stone, concrete and wood-effect looks. Large formats (60x60 or bigger) keep maintenance simple.
Pergolas — Comfort Without Closing Yourself In
Shade and shelter without turning your terrace into a box. The right pergola keeps the outdoor feeling while protecting from midday sun and light rain.
Fixed Pergola Frames
Wooden or aluminium frame with fabric, polycarbonate or reed panels. Lower cost than bioclimatic, still effective for shade. Good for terraces that face east or north.
Think About Sun Orientation
South-facing terrace gets intense afternoon sun — a bioclimatic pergola is worth it. East or west-facing terraces often do fine with a fixed frame. We always check before we quote.
Bioclimatic Pergola
Motorised aluminium louvres that open and close. Open in winter sun, close against summer midday heat or rain. The most flexible option for year-round use.
Outdoor Lighting — Extend the Evening
Good outdoor lighting doubles the usable hours of your terrace. Warm white, low-voltage LED — installed properly so it works for years without maintenance issues.
Ground and Step Lighting
Low-level lights set into the floor, walls or stair risers. Marks paths and level changes safely. Effective at low wattage and invisible during the day.
Dining and Feature Lighting
String lights, pendant lights under a pergola, or accent spots on plants or walls. Sets the mood for evening use without over-illuminating.
LED Downlights
Recessed into a pergola ceiling or building overhang. Clean look, no visible cables, good spread of light. The most common choice for covered terraces.
