Microcement: suitability, preparation and maintenance
Check the existing surface, the intended use and future care before choosing a microcement system.

Editorial update: 27 September 2026.
What attracts owners to microcement?
A continuous finish can give floors and walls a quieter appearance, with fewer visible joints than a tiled design. Colour, texture and sheen vary by system. Start by comparing samples in the room where the finish will be used.
The substrate comes first
An existing floor is not automatically suitable for a new coating. Stability, moisture, cracks and changes in level need assessment. Tiles may sometimes remain, but preparation and repairs must be included in the scope rather than assumed away.
Bathrooms and outdoor use need a specific system
Do not infer suitability for a shower, terrace or heated floor from the word microcement alone. Ask which complete system will be installed, how wet areas are detailed and whether the product documentation supports the intended use.
Preparation and curing still take time
Keeping an existing floor can reduce removal work, but does not make the job free of disruption. Agree the preparation, access restrictions and time before the surface can be used. Those details depend on the product and site conditions.
Understand care and future repairs
The protective finish needs the cleaning and maintenance specified for the installed system. Ask when resealing may be needed and how damage would be repaired. A repair can remain visible if the original colour and texture cannot be matched exactly.
Decide with a complete comparison
Compare microcement with tiles using appearance, preparation, maintenance and repairability, not only the initial quote. Share photographs and the intended use with Jeffrey so the property can be assessed before a finish is selected.
